Yohji Yamamoto
Yohji Yamamoto gained an international reputation as a fashion designer in the early 1980s by challenging traditional fashion ideas by designing clothes that seemed too big, unfinished, playing with gender ideas, or fabrics that are not normally used in trendy attire such as felt or neoprene. Other works revealed Yamamoto's remarkable cut, knowledge of fashion history and a sense of humor. His work is characterized by the frequent and skillful use of black, a color he describes as "modest and arrogant at the same time".
